Luthier · the elder son · Rosettes, marquetry & inlay
“A rosette is a thousand decisions around an absence.”
The elder son studied marquetry before he studied guitars — a year with a furniture restorer in the Albaicín taught his hands the patience his father's bench would demand. His rosettes are drawn from the tilework of the Alhambra, redrawn until they belong to a guitar instead of a wall.
No two of his mosaics are alike; the pattern of each is logged in the house book beside the name of the guitarist who commissioned it. He is the quietest of the three, and the one whose work is photographed most.
His work

Every guitar he builds carries the house label inside the soundhole, signed in his hand.
